The cave is a unique natural object and is one of the largest and most important archaeological monuments in the country. It combines in itself the majesty of nature and the mystery of the people of antiquity who left their mark on its walls. Every visit to Magura Cave is an amazing journey into the depths of prehistory and mysticism. With a total length of about 2.5 km, Magura Cave takes your breath away with its beautiful natural formations - stalactites, stalactons, etc. After research was carried out at the site, remains of dwellings, stone tools, bones, metal ceramics, hearths, etc. were found.

The ancient paintings of Magura Cave are the most mysterious and fascinating part of it. They are among the most impressive examples of prehistoric art in the world. Created 8,000 years ago by the prehistoric inhabitants of the region, they represent an extremely important cultural heritage of Bulgaria.
The drawings are priceless testimonies to human creativity, ingenuity and history, and provide us with valuable information about the lives of our ancestors in the Stone Age, their beliefs, rituals and everyday life. They cover a wide range of subjects, including hunting scenes, religious symbols, astronomical events, and elaborate compositions that probably represent mythological narratives.

Historical significance
The drawings give us a glimpse into the lives of people during the Neolithic and Eneolithic, eras that have been largely unexplored until now. They carry within them information about the social development, technological progress and artistic achievements of these early human societies.
Scientific significance
The drawings contain some of the earliest known examples of human art and symbolism, giving us crucial evidence for the development of abstract thought and the concept of language.
Theological significance
Analysis of these drawings also helps us better understand prehistoric belief systems, including their religious practices, fertility cults, and beliefs about the afterlife.
From a practical point of view, the preservation of the Magura cave paintings is essential for future generations. As one of the oldest surviving examples of human art, they serve as a reminder of our shared cultural heritage and highlight humanity's continuing quest for creativity and self-expression. The loss or damage of these drawings would be an irreparable loss to world culture and history.
We must not forget the biological species whose home is Magura Cave. It is inhabited year-round by 8 species of bats, two of which are included in the World Red List (Long-toed bat, Southern horseshoe bat).

WHAT IS THE CONDITION OF THE MAGURA CAVE PAINTINGS TODAY?
- Bad condition
The drawing gallery is in a bad state, leading to its complete closure for visits and viewing in 2019.
- I do not meet the expectations of tourists
Due to the fact that the art gallery has been closed for 4 years now, there is a discrepancy between the expectations of tourists and reality. As a result, there is dissatisfaction and a significant deterioration of the tourism product.
- Not suitable for mass tourism
In order to stabilize the condition of the drawings and preserve them for future generations, many years of restoration work will be needed. The drawings will then have to be stored under strictly controlled conditions to ensure their conservation. This excludes tourist access.
- Difficult access
The main gallery of the cave is 2 to 3 meters wide and over 1,500 m long. This not only makes access difficult for people with health problems or the elderly, but also forces groups to stretch out to a great length. This makes it difficult for tour guides, who can hardly deliver a talk that is heard equally well by all tourists
- Impossibility of long and in-depth conversations
Visits to the cave are hourly, which does not allow for too long talks in great detail, as large groups move more slowly and it takes a purely technological time to explore the cave, even without a talk.
As a result of all these objective factors, the offer of a tourist product of poor quality appears, which worsens the tourist experience of visitors and hinders the tourist development of the region.
